Giant Flip Flops

I love this idea that a little girl from our church came up with.  Using two wipes containers and a four rubber bands your kids can create giant flip flop stilts!

When I was a child I remember doing something similar (but a little steadier) with two big tin cans and two  pieces of rope.  I don't remember exactly how it worked though; does anyone have directions?

That is such a cute idea! Any idea what the weight limit would be on those!!! My boys love the little stilts with a rope, but I wonder if they would be to heavy for something like this.

Erin, I'd say "Go for it!" I can stand on wipes containers with no problem; so I'm sure your boys would be fine :-)

I made coffee can stilts when I was little too - it's hard to find coffee in tin cans, these days, though. Maybe the big plastic peanut butter tubs from Costco would work?

You punch two holes through opposite sides of the cans, thread some sturdy rope or twine through, and tie knots on the inside. I remember mine always tended to try to flip over, probably because the holes weren't exactly even.

Love your site - I'm definitely bookmarking it for reference when I'm out of ideas for my 4yo and her 1yo twin siblings!

They also remind me of stilts! I like what Jenny said - high heels? lol - Its a great idea to reuse those baby wipe containers - and this looks like a lot of fun! I featured this on It's Playtime today, i's all about upcycling :) Come join us again this week!

With the coffee can stilts as I recall the rope through the holes in the sides of the can (near the bottom of the can/top of the stilt) needs to be a long rope so you hold a rope loop in each hand as you walk.  I'm not being very clear but instead of tying the cans to your feet when I had them you lifted the rope loop with each step....
